5 Things to Know Before Moving to Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club

Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club is one of Southern Florida’s most pristine residential communities, and living here is an experience unlike any other. Here are five things to know before you make the move to RPYCC.

The Heart of Boca Raton

Few communities in South Florida can claim the location that Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club has held since 1959. Founded by Arthur Vining Davis — the former chairman of Alcoa and one of Florida’s most influential developers — the community was the crown jewel of his Arvida Corporation, designed from the ground up as a “club within a community,” where the yacht club and golf course were woven directly into the residential layout. That was a rare concept at the time, and it remains rare today.

The 450-acre community sits in East Boca Raton with direct access to both the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean. The Boca Raton Resort & Club is less than half a mile away, Mizner Park is a 5-minute drive north, and the beach is within a mile. Forbes recognizes RPYCC on its list of America’s Most Exclusive Gated Communities — and the address has earned that distinction over more than six decades.

Ammenities

Community

Owning a home at Royal Palm does not automatically make you a member of the club. Membership is separate, optional, and by invitation only — a distinction that sets RPYCC apart from virtually every comparable community in South Florida.

To be considered, an applicant must be nominated by two current members in good standing, each providing letters of recommendation that speak to character and professional background. A formal interview with the Membership Committee follows, conducted with both the applicant and their spouse. After that, the candidate’s name is posted to the general membership for 10 to 14 days, during which existing members can submit feedback before a final vote is taken.

The result is a community that has maintained its social fabric deliberately and consistently for over 60 years. Golf membership carries an initiation fee of approximately $210,000 with annual dues around $30,000. The Golf category is at or near capacity, often operating on a one-in, one-out basis, with residents given priority on the waitlist. Security is staffed by State of Florida Certified Armed Officers, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with roving maritime patrols covering the waterfront properties.

Dining

The club’s dining venues are named with intention. The number 1959 appears throughout Royal Palm as a tribute to the year Arthur Vining Davis began development — and it is the name of the club’s signature fine dining restaurant. Here, formal country club attire is expected, the menu centers on high-end seafood and prime cuts, and the wine program has been recognized by the Club Management Association of America for its depth and curation.

For something more relaxed, Harbor Grille sits at the social heart of the Yacht Club, with casual, sophisticated fare and direct views of the marina. The 19th Hole offers a quick lunch and drinks after a round. Fahrenheit is reserved for the most private occasions — a dedicated dining room accommodating up to 24 guests, designed for wine tastings, board dinners, and intimate celebrations that call for a higher level of seclusion than the main rooms can offer.

Across all venues, menus rotate seasonally around Florida’s coastal bounty. During the Season (October through May), the club hosts Seafood Extravaganzas, Prime Rib Saturdays, and elaborate Sunday Brunches. RPYCC is a perennial Platinum Club of America honoree, placing it in the top 4% of private clubs nationwide — a designation that carries considerable weight in the club management world.

Golfing

Golfing

The golf course at Royal Palm has been through two defining chapters. It was originally designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., then completely reimagined in 2003 by Jack Nicklaus — a long-time South Florida resident who brought his personal design philosophy directly to the community he knows well. Nicklaus returned in 2014 to reshape the greens to their original contours, expand the tee boxes, and overhaul every bunker on the course.

A Nicklaus Signature designation is the highest tier offered by Nicklaus Design. It means Jack personally oversaw every phase — from initial routing to the final shaping of the greens — and that the club must seek approval from his team before making any future structural changes. There are relatively few Signature courses in existence, and RPYCC is among them.

The course plays to a par of 72 at 7,116 yards from the championship tees, with a course rating of 75.1 and a slope of 141 — a layout that demands precision from any handicap. Fairways and tees are planted with Celebration Bermuda, greens with TifEagle Bermuda for a fast, consistent surface. Over 110 mature palm trees were repositioned along the fairways during recent renovations, giving a 20-year-old redesign the established feel of a course twice its age. The club hosts PGA South Florida Section qualifiers and charitable tournaments throughout the year, drawing some of the most influential figures in the region.

Marina

Marina

For owners of large vessels, Royal Palm’s most significant asset may be what it doesn’t have: fixed bridges. RPYCC’s no-fixed-bridge access means a 100-foot-plus yacht can be docked at your back door and reach the Atlantic Ocean in minutes, without waiting for bridge schedules. That is genuinely rare in South Florida, even by Fort Lauderdale standards.

The marina itself was overhauled in 2016 with the installation of a high-performance TimberTech floating dock system, capable of accommodating up to 130 vessels at lengths of up to 130 feet. Private waterfront estate lots within the community can accommodate vessels up to 165 feet along their own seawalls. The 2016 project also included a full overhaul of the electrical infrastructure to support the high-amperage demands of larger yachts, along with high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the basin.

Full-time concierge services cover far more than a check-in desk. Dedicated dockhands handle arrivals and departures, a high-speed fuel dock is on-site with coordinated fueling so vessels are ready when the owner arrives, and the club maintains a vetted vendor list for divers, detailers, and engine technicians. The Office, a marina lounge built directly on the docks, serves as the social anchor of the waterfront — a gathering point for cocktails and docktail parties without leaving the water’s edge. The marina is private and members-only, with transient access extended only to members of affiliated Florida Council of Yacht Clubs locations.
